What Safe at Home will cover
- Home safety assessment
- Handrails on both sides of stairways
- Grab bars anchored into framing
- Safer entry steps and landings
- Better lighting in stairways, halls and entries
- Accessible bathroom modifications
Most people want to remain in their own homes as they age. Often a few targeted changes to stairs, entries and bathrooms make that possible.
We already build stairs, railings, entry steps and bathrooms. Safe at Home applies that experience to one question: what changes would make this house safer and easier to live in for years to come? Each project begins with an assessment and a written list of recommendations in order of priority.
Draft note: no claims of past accessibility work on this page. Once Nick finishes aging-in-place (CAPS) training and has a few small jobs done, add a line about the training and real photos. Planned price for the safety visit: $150 to $250, credited toward work over $2,500 (from the aging-in-place report; not confirmed).
1. Home assessment
We review the home with you, inside and out, including entry steps, stairways, bathrooms, bedrooms and the routes between them.
2. Written recommendations
You receive a prioritized list of recommended changes with prices, so you can address the most important items first and plan the rest over time.
3. Targeted improvements
Handrails, grab bars, lighting and steps are typically small projects. Their safety depends on proper anchoring and construction.
4. Larger modifications
Projects such as walk-in showers or first-floor living space are planned with you and your family when they are needed.
